Invitation to participate in Australian Horse-riding study
Bianca Price - School of Management/University of South Australia

I would like to invite you and your club or association members to be part of a study on horse-riding participation. I am a PhD scholar at the University of South Australia in the School of Management. I am currently working on this as a research project with Dr. Duncan Murray, a Senior Lecturer in Sport and Recreation Management within the School. This research is of personal interest to me as, being a horse rider for 15 years, I am amazed at how little is understood about the motives, constraints and benefits of horse riding.

There is currently very little research available that explores horse-riding as a leisure pursuit with a need for a better understanding of the processes underlying the involvement and commitment of owning and riding horses. Specifically, for this study, we are interested in understanding the processes horse-riders employ to negotiate their horse and their work lives. Horse riders may be regarded as "serious leisure" participants and we are interested in how riders manage the variety of constraints and barriers they experience (especially with regards to work). Furthermore we are interested in getting a better understanding of the general profile of horse riders in Australia and in addition how horse riding contributes to rider's perceptions of themselves.

Would you please pass this on to as many horse-riders as possible. In addition would you please take the time to complete the survey?

The survey is administered solely online and ideally we would like to get the best possible response across Australia in all disciplines of horse-riding. Below is the link to the survey. It can be attached to any email that may be passed on to any colleagues, members and participants that you are aware of who own/ ride horses...

All they need to do is click on the link and they will be diverted to the survey website and asked to complete a 10 minute survey comprised of a series of questions regarding their horse riding, work commitments and their core self-evaluation.

The email link to the survey is:

<a href="https://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=B5BWX9a4kGT5JPnhqgcSWg_3d_3d">Click

Put simply it may include something like...

"Do you own and ride horses?  The University of South Australia is conducting a survey on how riding affects lifestyle and how horse riders juggle their work lives, and would love you to be involved in our ten minute online survey"

Please feel free to go to this site to check out the survey for yourself. It is anonymous and there is no record kept of IP addresses or other information that may identify any participant.

Thank you for you time

I hope you will be able to support this study!

Kind Regards

Bianca Price
